Building Bharat – Coimbatore Chapter

Coimbatore is one of the major metropolitan cities in Tamil Nadu, and the second largest city in the state, after Chennai. Being a hub of the textile industry in South India, the city is referred to as the "Manchester of South India". With the rapid urban development of the city, there has been a massive demand and growth of IT infrastructure.

With online retailing, e-commerce, cloud computing, and above all easily accessible and affordable internet services, digitalisation and IT development has rapidly brought a makeover in 2 and tier 3 tier cities. A major impetus has been the changing work environment. As per a survey done by Dell Technologies, 61 percent of people prefer hybrid work culture. This simply reflects how the IT infrastructure requirements for the users have increased at a personal level. Moreover, this shift has been quite evident in one of the well- developed tier 2 cities of India, Coimbatore.

Highlighting this transition in cities like Coimbatore, CRN India has created a platform ‘Building Bharat’ in partnership with Dell Technologies and Redington. The platform aims to host a series of conferences to address the customers about IT developments in their city and how new-gen data storage and management solutions are providing an impetus to the otherwise slow-paced economy of these tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The 6 th edition of the Building Bharat series was organised in Coimbatore on September 21, 2022.

Embrace the future of work and modernise your IT infrastructure

The session started with an interesting presentation, ‘Embrace the future of work and modernise your IT infrastructure’, by Karthikeyan SP, Partner Account Manager, Dell Technologies.

Addressing the gathering, Karthikeyan highlighted, “Every customer has multiple applications running in their data centre. Therefore, Dell offers the industry's largest portfolio of products that caters to all types of customer demands. For most products that Dell offers, customers can take it on a pay-per-use model / as-a-service.”

Further, elaborating on Dell's range of products portfolio, he shared, “Dell's Precision mobile workstations portfolio boosts productivity with powerful and reliable professional grade tools. Also, Dell EMC’s PowerEdge Servers help organisations meet the demands of digital transformation with a portfolio that supports diverse workloads and business objectives.”

Dell EMC’s VxRail, which is a turnkey hyper-converged VMware virtualization appliance, simplifies deployment of virtualized applications and delivers highly predictable performance across millions of configuration options to meet any hyper converged infrastructure use case. “Dell's Networking solutions are acting as the foundation for the IT transformation of many business organisations,” he mentioned, adding that Dell’s Optimizer; a built-in, AI-based optimization software, learns and responds to the way customers work,” he added.

The delegates appreciated the presentation by Dell representatives and were vocal about the company’s seamless service delivery and customer-centric approach.

Sharing his thoughts on the gaining prominence of technology, Logesh Velusamy, CEO, Effitrac Solutions expressed, “It’s the interest of the Coimbatorians in new technologies which brings most of the IT companies to the city. Growth in the IT infrastructure is more important for Coimbatore, as the textiles and automobile industries are also developing much faster from past two years and we are most welcoming to all types of MNCs.”

“Dell and Redington are the companies that we look forward to work with. We are mostly using Dell laptops and desktops. We look forward to partnering with Redington if they help us in adoption of the software and licensing as a partner,” he added.

Devaraj Palanisamy, Executive Director and Group Senior Vice President, KG Information Systems stated, “Coimbatore is matching global standards in terms of business, and every organisation needs the latest technologies to set the bar high.”

Adding further, Shrikrishna Narashimhan, Group Head, Pricol stated, “We recently underwent IT hardware refresh and most of the assets are of Dell. We have been in touch with the Dell team almost regularly.”

Kalaivanan S, Head IT, Schnell Energy Equipments P Ltd. shared that Coimbatore still has a long way to go and things have started in the right direction. “There is an influx of IT businesses so let us enable the ecosystems with all the right infrastructure,” he said.

“We wanted to know more about the options offered by Dell, as we always believed in evolving and adopting new technologies and scaling up our business is one of our top priorities. We are looking for optimisation and upgradation of the data centre and options like cloud infrastructures, if it’s available. To fulfil all these areas, we have started engaging with Dell very recently as a single vendor. ” added Kalaivanan.

The ‘Building Bharat’ Coimbatore chapter ended on a high note. The delegates expressed appreciation for Dell’s product lines and unanimously agreed how Dell has come up with a technology solution for every type of customer - ranging from the Dell's Networking solutions which are acting as the foundation for the IT transformation of many business organisations.
